Museum TID invites you on a fascinating historical journey through the Viking Age, Middle Ages, and Renaissance. Over six centuries, Odense transformed from a modest village into a thriving international trading city, and this exhibition explores the dramatic social and cultural changes that shaped the period.
The exhibition is located in an authentic Renaissance-era manor house, which itself is an important part of Odense's heritage. The 11 thematic sections come to life through advanced sound design, lighting, and projection technology. Your journey of discovery begins in the Viking Age with King Harald Bluetooth's Viking fortress "Nonnebakken" at Odense Å and continues to King Canute the Holy's tragic end in Albani Church — you stand on the same floor where the last Viking king fell. The exhibition also delves into everyday life for ordinary people, from marketplaces and backyards to private homes, where you experience both their struggles — illness, death, and punishment — and their pleasures through bathhouses, exotic trade goods, and skilled craftsmanship.
An important archaeological find is a bishop's coffin with skeleton, discovered at the site where St. Albani Church from the 1000s once stood. This small wooden church was rebuilt and expanded over the centuries and gradually increased in significance.
