Market Day in Odense takes place at Sortebrødre Torv in the old town, just a few minutes' walk from H.C. Andersen's House, the city museum TID and Odeon Concert Hall. Visitors can browse fresh vegetables, fruit, flowers and other seasonal produce, and there are also cheeses for sale, including the Funen specialty rygeos. On most market days, the fish truck is there as well.
The market is held twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and is usually open at least from 8 to 13. In winter, it is mainly locals who shop here, while in summer the city's visitors are easy to spot. In December, Torvedage moves to Flakhaven because the H.C. Andersen Christmas Market takes over Sortebrødre Torv. Some of the fruit and vegetables are organically grown and others are not, so ask the individual stallholders if that matters to you. In summer, Odense Symphony Orchestra sometimes performs a free concert at the square.
