Archivist Rasmus Willaing Lock presents a fascinating history of the small haven Sortehusene on the northern part of Stige Island. These houses were constructed from salvaged materials, primarily driftwood, and offered residents very primitive living conditions without access to water, electricity, or sewage systems.
Despite these limitations, the site attracted an active community of people, with some even choosing to live there year-round. However, this way of life lasted only until 1967, when the area was closed down and its residents were forced to leave their homes.
