Opera Kino at Cafe biografen in Odense welcomes audiences once a month for an opera screening, and this time it presents the 1982 opera film Rigoletto. The film is Jean-Pierre Ponnelle's classic TV and film version of Verdi's opera, known for its realistic historical style, shot in authentic surroundings in Northern Italy and with strong emphasis on the psychological interplay between the characters. Giuseppe Verdi was one of opera's great composers, and Rigoletto is among his most famous works, with the aria "La donna è mobile" as one of its best-known pieces.
The story follows the mocked court jester Rigoletto, who desperately tries to protect his daughter Gilda from the seductive and dangerous world of the Duke of Mantua. A terrible mistake sets a tragic revenge plot in motion, with Sparafucile also playing a crucial role. The opera has a libretto by Piave based on Victor Hugo's "Le Roi s'amuse" and premiered in Venice in 1851. Admission: 160 kr. Venue: Café Biografen.
