Mexican artist Rey Morales Vásquez exhibits his oil paintings at Galleri Galschiøt. Works draw inspiration from Latin American narrative traditions with dreamlike motifs – bizarre winged creatures, people on stilts, and figures engaged in unusual situations. The artist's social commitment is subtly reflected through the challenges of Mexican society, woven into each canvas's own kaleidoscopic universe, simultaneously melancholic and life-affirming.
Rey Morales was born in Oaxaca in 1981. His artistic journey began through a socially engaged theater director named Raul García Ramos, who in 1997 brought together street boys for an art and theater group. This group was later discovered by the Danish aid organisation Tinku, which invited them on a theater tour throughout Denmark and Sweden. This experience launched his artistic career. He has since completed art school education and participated in projects and exhibitions in Mexico, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Greenland. Rey has worked closely with Danish sculptor Jens Galschiøt over several periods.
