Odense Libraries and the association Odense Pride invite those interested in literature to share their experience of LGBTQ+-related texts in safe spaces. No preparation is necessary – the focus is on experiencing text excerpts together and having an open conversation about them.
A trained reading guide presents the text excerpts through read-aloud sessions and opens the discussion. A safety guide from Odense Pride ensures the meeting runs inclusively. Meetings begin with an introduction of participants, material, and relevant LGBTQ+ concepts that enrich the conversation. The text excerpts serve as a common starting point – there is no expectation that individuals will represent a particular orientation or belief. Participants explore their own reading experience, while the safety guide helps clarify concepts.
Meetings bring together between 5 and 12 participants (excluding guides). Registration takes place via free tickets on the library's website. You can request content warnings (e.g. sexual themes or phobias) via email to the event coordinator. Additional meeting times are announced on an ongoing basis.
