Stories about seafaring, innovation and human conflict. Nils Valdersdorf Jensen, department head and Ph.D. at Svendborg Museum, presents the period around 1884 when the Mærsk Møller family settled in Svendborg and established a steamship company – an event that put local sailing ship owners in uproar.
The lecture explores the dramatic years when traditional sailing ships met modern steamships, and how this technological upheaval affected trade, power and society. It is a story about economic conflict, human reactions to change and how new technology can transform the world – themes that remain relevant today.
