Together with FOF, we explore the Nordic Council's literary prize awarded to Faroese authors and analyze the struggle between Faroese and Danish literature for prominence in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Literature has been central to the development of Faroese national identity. Today, it is also internationally oriented, with extensive work to bring Faroese literature to the world through translations.
This is the first of three lectures on North Atlantic literary history. FOF and the North Atlantic House work together to spread knowledge of the literary traditions of the Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Greenland. Over the winter, three lectures are presented, each dedicated to one country and its literary heritage.
