Three Danish researchers unfold the world of coffee: from the plant itself to the cup on your table. Botanist Anders Barfod presents the biology of the coffee plant and agrobiodiversity. Natural resource economist Aske Skovmand Bosselmann explores sustainable cultivation, ecosystem services, and climate challenges. Diabetes and nutrition researcher Kjeld Hermansen addresses health myths – is coffee actually unhealthy, or are these claims just fiction?
The lecture is set in historical perspective with the development of Danish coffee culture since 1665. You will also gain insight into research on how coffee affects mortality and diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
The event is a streamed version of a lecture from spring 2023, organized by Aarhus University as part of the series Public Lectures in Natural Sciences, supported by the Carlsberg Foundation.
Free admission.
