At Ringe Library, you can become certified as a volunteer in Læsehunde together with your dog. Once approved as a reading team, you and your dog can take part in 1:1 reading sessions for children in 1st–5th grade at a local school or library, where the child reads aloud and you help create a calm and safe reading environment.
The certification is free and consists of an online teaching module of approximately 60 minutes as well as in-person attendance on the certification day. The day includes arrival at the library, an assessment of the dog's health by an experienced canine behaviour consultant, and a practical reading situation with a child. If approved, consent is given for obtaining a child protection certificate, and you will receive a volunteer contract, a Læsehunde scarf, and a starter pack. The handler must be at least 18 years old, and the dog must be 2 years old on the certification day. If you want certification with two dogs, you must book two certification time slots.
